Are you in rare form today?
Michael Jordan, who is arguably the most entertaining basketball player to influence the sport, has come a long way since the day he was cut from the varsity team at Emsley A. Laney High School as a sophomore. The coach could have never guessed that he would eventually evolve into a six-time NBA champion and receive an endorsement from Nike that would solidify his timeless legacy. As of today, there are over 20 Air Jordan styles to choose from, although retros seem to be much more fashionable than the later designs.
Air Jordan 5
On May 14, 2011, we will see a new addition to “The Fighter” 5 series, a Tinker Hatfield design that first captivated the market in 1990. The nickname is actually derived from a World War II Mustang fighter plane concept to complement MJ’s dogfight-like game. It is most notable for its easily distinguishable plastic lacelock feature, separating it from the other favorites. A single colorway of Light Graphite/White-Wolf Grey is sure to appeal to the 400+ Facebook fans that have already showed interest. They will be sold for $150 at select international locations.
Air Jordan 7
The ’92 “Pure Gold” 7 series was just released this past weekend in the Light Silver/Metallic Gold-True Red-White colorway, especially for those who are financially lucky and have great taste. The YOTR, or Year of the Rabbit, zodiac theme attached to this shoe automatically creates another rare occasion. Although it’s an athletic shoe, it was primarily based on running shoe technology to maximize comfort and decrease weight. The artist responsible for its design is a little bit closer to home, using West African tribal references throughout the combination of genuine leather and a sturdy rubber sole. Slightly more expensive than the 5s, they will be sold for $160 at select international locations as well.

It has been nicknamed the “Italian Stallion” due to its made-in-Italy artistry. Most of the other releases had solid rubber soles, while this version features the bubble design in red. This non-typical change in aesthetics may enlist it as a collector’s item; it might turn out to be the only one of its kind within the series. Like the 7s, it too will go on the market for a cool $160 at select international locations.
